about casa onze
The casa onze residency project was designed to be a space that allows international artists to be immersed in Brazilian culture, not only as visitors but as strongly connected participants in an articulated and diverse network of people who shape the rhythms of São Paulo’s artistic landscape.
-
Located at number 11 on Travessa Dona Paula, casa onze is thought to be a home, a nest with the same warm reception that comes to mind when thinking about Brazilian people. The artist can dialogue with a Brazilian universe not only outside the house, but also in it: the house is filled with carefully chosen Brazilian furniture, design, literature, music, and botany, creating an environment that feels both inspiring and welcoming. Hosting only one artist at a time, the house provides a comfortable work studio with a double-height ceiling, a kitchen, a bedroom suite, a garden, and a library.

-
Travessa Dona Paula is home to a variety of cultural and artistic facilities that are essential to the city. They typically open on Saturdays, when collections welcome visitors, galleries host openings, and publishers launch new books. During the week, the area remains calm and quiet, with many of the houses still serving as family residences. Travessa is just a few blocks from Avenida Paulista, the main artery of São Paulo, and is near several galleries, museums, libraries, and artists’ studios.
