cycle three DIEDRICK BRACKENS jun—aug, 2026

casa onze proudly receives Diedrick Brackens in its third cycle of residencies, which takes place from June to August 2026. This will be the first itinerant cycle: in addition to the period at casa onze in São Paulo, the residency incorporates the artist's travels to Salvador and Rio de Janeiro.

Diedrick Brackens approaches weaving as a poetic space of transformation, where threads become vehicles for imagining alternative forms of kinship, desire, and belonging. Moving fluidly between figuration and abstraction, his tapestries draw on mythology, memory, and folklore to construct narratives that resist fixed identities. Through the open, accumulative logic of weaving, Brackens articulates queer and Black experiences as sites of freedom, multiplicity, and continual becoming.

This cycle also presents a renewed group of onze amigos, designed based on the artist's interests, offering a structure focused on social and cultural immersion, which includes conversations and meetings aimed at supporting the introduction of Brackens to local artistic contexts and Afro-Brazilian queer culture.

previous cycles

Previous casa onze residency cycles welcomed artists such as Precious Okoyomon and Willa Wasserman, who engaged intimately with the Brazilian context through their artistic and personal interests. Through immersion, research, and exchange, they established meaningful networks of connections, reflecting the residency’s commitment to fostering engagement with local realities.

casa onze

In its inaugural year, casa onze opens its doors to host and foster dialogues between international artists and the Brazilian cultural scene. Its artistic residency program is based in a cozy row house in São Paulo, in the Higienópolis neighborhood. Travessa Dona Paula, where casa onze is located, is a small and discreet cobblestone street with houses from the 1920s — now, some of them nestle partner art residencies, galleries, collections, and editorials.

onze amigos

onze amigos are casa onze’s artistic host committee — a dedicated group of local people who will serve as guides and connectors for each resident. More than just welcoming faces, this collective will ensure that visiting artists are thoughtfully introduced to São Paulo’s artistic circles, fostering relationships that go beyond professional networking.

casa onze is a place for cultural immersion, artistic dialogue and community. Our residency program and public activities are made possible thanks to the generosity of individuals and organizations who support our vision.

We rely on donations to maintain our space, welcome artists from around the world, and introduce international voices to Brazil’s vibrant cultural landscape. Your support helps us create opportunities for dialogue, collaboration, and the sharing of perspectives that cross borders.

Every contribution — big or small — helps us keep our doors open and our programs thriving. Thank you for supporting casa onze and being part of this journey.
